The opportunity:
We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Senior Manager of Trucking Operations to lead our internal trucking operations within our Omni-channel fulfillment network. This role requires a strong operational leader who excels at navigating complex challenges with creative, out-of-the-box solutions. We’re looking for someone who brings deep expertise in transportation and logistics, along with a track record of hands-on, impactful problem-solving in a dynamic, high-growth environment.
As the Senior Manager of Trucking Operations, you will oversee end-to-end business operations, managing P&L to drive profitability and efficiency. In close partnership with tech and product teams, you will help develop and implement innovative operational strategies that enhance service and lower costs. You will define a roadmap for scalable, long-term operational improvements and oversee daily execution to maximize productivity and quality across the trucking function.
This is a high-visibility, high-impact role where you will build out multiple business units within a fast-paced, startup-like environment. Working cross-functionally, you will leverage your leadership and influence to drive tangible results and transform our trucking operations into a competitive advantage for the business.
You will:
Lead the development and implementation of technology solutions that enhance operations for our internal transportation network, driving innovation and efficiency.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including tech and product, to define requirements and create features that address operational challenges and unlock growth.
Foster a culture of problem-solving and experimentation, encouraging teams to explore new ideas and technologies that optimize processes.
Work closely with internal teams to integrate tech solutions into daily operations, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and operational needs.
Oversee the entire internal Omni-Channel transportation network, including LTL and FTL inbounds, FTL Crossdock to Hub, and small parcel carrier injections.
Develop and implement strategies to optimize productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction across the internal transportation network.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics, driving continuous improvement to achieve targets.
Own the P&L for the operations, developing and managing budgets to meet financial objectives while maintaining operational excellence.
Identify and implement cost optimization strategies to improve efficiency without compromising quality or service levels.
Monitor expenses and ensure adherence to budgetary guidelines.
Partner with technology and product teams to build innovative solutions that drive operational effectiveness and sales growth.
Collaborate with fulfillment operations, procurement, customer service, and quality control to ensure seamless integration of processes across the transportation network.
Provide regular reports and insights to senior management on operational performance, challenges, and opportunities.
Drive a culture of continuous improvement, fostering innovation and identifying opportunities for process optimization and automation.
Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in the transportation industry, implementing relevant changes as needed.
Define and implement new KPIs that enhance operational productivity and quality.
You should have:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, logistics, supply chain management, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
Proven experience as a Manager or similar leadership role in a transportation environment.
Strong knowledge of all modes of transportation, including LTL, FTL, Domestic drayage, and transloading.
Demonstrated success in managing and developing large teams with a hands-on leadership approach.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
Proficiency in data analysis and KPI-driven performance improvement.
Strong financial acumen with experience in P&L management and operational efficiency.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with a technical mindset and willingness to roll up sleeves to address challenges.
Familiarity with TMS systems (Shipwell would be a plus) and other relevant software applications.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices in the transportation industry.
