The opportunity:

At Flexport you’ll develop products that are at the forefront of reshaping the entire logistics & supply chain industries. You will work alongside self-starters interested in solving real-world problems and streamlining the inefficiencies in the complex global trade industry.

The Fulfillment Organization at Flexport plays a critical role in ensuring seamless domestic fulfillment operations. This team is responsible for the end-to-end process of managing inventory from the moment it arrives at our warehouses to the point it is shipped out to customers. The core functions of our Fulfillment Organization include:

  1. Warehouse Integration: Ensuring our warehouses are efficiently integrated with our technology platform, enabling real-time tracking and management of goods.

  2. Inventory Management: Overseeing the accurate and efficient management of inventory, including tracking, auditing, and maintaining optimal inventory levels to meet customer demands.

  3. Inbound Management: Coordinating and processing the purchase orders, ensuring they are checked, logged, and stored correctly in our warehouses.

  4. Order Fulfillment: Managing the process of picking, packing, and shipping orders to customers, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries.

The role involves learning the business of fulfillment, integrating the Flexport system with world leading Warehouse Management Systems, designing solutions to make our supply chain more efficient, and thinking innovatively to automate much of it. As a senior engineer on this team, you will be responsible for architecture, design, and implement high-performance software solutions for fulfillment technology in Flexport, communicating status with stakeholders, and delivering the results with the team together.

This position requires attendance in the Bellevue, WA office 3 days a week with flexibility to work remotely 2 days per week

You will:

  • Work closely with business partners and product managers to distill complex business problems into elegant technical solutions.

  • Build highly available, secure, distributed systems in a microservice architecture.

  • Design, develop, test and maintain systems that represent the real-world intricacies of logistics entities, such as packing lists, booking notifications, and routing guides.

  • Participate in architecting, developing and operating infrastructure to WMS integration and automation.

  • Architect and drive cross-team projects. This team is building solutions that add new functionality to multiple Flexport systems.

  • Build and launch products rapidly and incrementally leveraging best practices around CI/CD to facilitate development.

  • Mentor and educate more junior engineers on the team and in the larger Flexport engineering community on trends, technologies, and best practices.

  • Ensure our products maintain a high-quality bar. We believe in anticipating issues by obsessing over metrics and applying key learnings from post-mortems to all our services.

You should have:

  • 4+ years of software engineering experience building large scale, high-performance systems in a complex, multi-tiered, distributed environment..

  • Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design and data structures, algorithm design, problem solving and complexity analysis.

  • Strong software development skills proficiency with programming languages such as Javascript, Python, Go, Java etc.

  • Understanding of best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing and operations.

  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Preferred experience:

  • Building and operating distributed enterprise-wide systems.

  • Processing large amounts of data.

  • E-commerce, supply chain, logistics, fulfillment and warehouse management systems, or finance systems.

  • TypeScript, Node.js and SQL.

  • AWS Lambda and SQS.

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range displayed, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and / or training.

The US base salary range for this position: (exclusive of bonus, equity and benefits.)

$206,000—$229,000 USD
